The Polisportiva Gonzaga SSD a RL, in collaboration with the Italian Football Federation – LND, is organizing the “Ninni Cassarà Legality Trophy” tournament at Gonzaga from 9 to 11 June 2025.
A youth soccer tournament reserved for grassroots categories (beginners, chicks, little friends and first kicks).
The event will take place primarily at the sports facilities of the Polisportiva Gonzaga, located within the Gonzaga Campus in Palermo (Via Piersanti Mattarella n. 38/42), but will also involve other fields in the city, in an atmosphere of celebration, participation, and shared memory.
The tournament is dedicated to the memory of Commissioner Antonino “Ninni” Cassarà, a valiant servant of the state assassinated by the Mafia on August 6, 1985, on the 40th anniversary of his death.
A direct collaborator of judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, Cassarà embodied with courage and integrity the true meaning of civic duty and commitment to justice.
On the occasion of the tournament, a Holy Mass will be celebrated in his memory, to remember the exemplary figure of a man and a policeman who fought on the front lines against organized crime.
Ninni Cassarà's brothers and their grandchildren will also be present at the ceremony and the tournament, testifying to the strong bond between family memory, civic commitment, and the growth of new generations.
The event, now in its most significant year, represents a special opportunity for approximately 90 teams from across Sicily to meet, offering young athletes not only an opportunity for sporting competition but also an educational experience on the values of legality and active citizenship.
From June 9th to 11th, the Gonzaga Campus will host an event with strong symbolic and civic value: the Trofeo della Legalità, a soccer tournament authorized by the FIGC and organized by Polisportiva Gonzaga. The tournament will feature many of the teams from Palermo and the surrounding province registered in the federal championships.
On June 13th and 14th, the event will continue with an Under-17 basketball tournament, hosted in the splendid setting of the Gonzaga Campus. Among the participating teams is the U17 team of Famila Wuber Schio, a club that recently won its 13th championship in the women's top division. Among the key players in the title victory was our Palermo-based club Cocca Verona.
The tournament's opening ceremony, scheduled for June 9th at 4:30 PM at the Gonzaga Campus, will begin with the presentation of the participating teams and a moment dedicated to the memory and example of Commissioner Ninni Cassarà, whose moral legacy continues to inspire the community and younger generations.
The awards ceremony for young footballers, from both the junior and senior categories, will be made even more meaningful by the participation of Ninni Cassarà's family, who will personally present the awards, underscoring the value of memory and civic commitment conveyed through sport.
