What is Civil Service?

It is the opportunity made available to young people aged 18 to 29 (not yet completed) to dedicate a year of their life in favour of a solidarity commitment understood as a commitment for the good of all and of each and therefore as a value of social cohesion.
The National Civil Service, established by law 6 March 2001 n° 64 is a way of defending the homeland, whose “duty” is established by article 52 of the Constitution; an “unarmed and non-violent” defense that must not be referred to the territory of the State and the protection of its external borders, but to the sharing of common values that found the democratic order of our state.
Voluntary civil service guarantees young people a strong educational and formative value, an important and often unique opportunity for personal growth, an opportunity for education in active citizenship, contributing to the social, cultural and economic development of our country.
This is a great opportunity that allows you to provide an enriching volunteer experience lasting a year, allows you to acquire skills that can be used in life and for entering the world of work, builds university training credits and a valid score in public competitions, can be redeemed for pension purposes, provides a monthly remuneration, certification of the skills acquired and ... much more!
With Legislative Decree 40/2017 and subsequent amendments, the National Civil Service is transformed into Universal Civil Service, providing for some innovations including some months of service dedicated to job orientation or in foreign countries. In addition to the participation of young people with fewer opportunities, access has also been extended to EU citizens and foreigners with regular residence.

The 12 entities of the network, with the sole objective of serving the Sicilian community and young people in a new and creative way, make their offices available (currently all in Sicily, in Palermo and Catania) to welcome, in 2025, 156 young volunteers. Of these, 56 young people will be selected to have a significant experience with the children and young people of the Gonzaga Campus (Scuola Italiana, International School Palermo, Polisportiva, Scuola per migranti).
In the Universal Civil Service with the Gonzaga network, you will be able to have a significant experience of personal and professional growth and maturation in the education and assistance sectors, having as privileged recipients minors and young people. But our projects also range in other areas of intervention such as: school tutoring, entertainment activities (recreational, sports, artistic, cultural, intercultural and social communication), orientation and job support for young people, inclusion and integration of migrants, preservation of artistic heritage and care of libraries.
The year of Universal Civil Service with Gonzaga will allow you to acquire specific skills and knowledge that can be used in the professional world through the work tutoring path provided in our projects.
