Where study and sport come together for the complete growth of the person
High school and sports career
The Sports Science High School is aimed in particular at two types of young people:
- young people involved in competitive sports, who do not intend to give up an excellent academic education;
- young people who, despite not already having a specific experience of competitive practice, want to cultivate their passion for sport.
The sports tutor
The presence of an accompanying figure chosen and trained specifically for this project is essential: the sports tutor with reference and liaison functions between the class council, the student, the family and the sports club.
Flexibility and customization of the path
A fundamental characteristic of the high school is the flexibility and personalization of the scholastic path in synergy with the sports path (with the related need to participate in training and competitions). In particular, for high-level student athletes, the PFP (Personalized Training Plan) is applied and we organize ourselves to guarantee the student's educational success by personalizing his scholastic commitments, including learning assessments and evaluation moments.

Gonzaga and sports clubs in synergy
The synergy between school and sport is also possible thanks to the collaboration with some sports federations and associations that are committed, together with Gonzaga, to promoting academic and sporting excellence in Sicily.
A scientific academic education
The sports high school is a scientific high school in all respects. The preparation in scientific subjects is equivalent to that of other high schools. Starting from the interest in sports, a series of disciplinary and interdisciplinary insights are then built that refer to physicality, nutrition, health and well-being.
The outgoing profile: good student and good athlete
Often the Italian school has considered being a good student and being a good athlete incompatible. The scientific sports high school was born at Gonzaga with the belief that good scholastic preparation and serious sports practice can be good allies. The school system and the sports system are therefore considered complementary and not alternative.

Liceo Scientifico Sportivo Curriculum
The Liceo Scientifico Sportivo's curriculum promotes a synergy between academic excellence and sports practice, enhancing the student's holistic development. The two-year program introduces the foundations of scientific and sports disciplines, while the three-year program explores specific areas such as sports law and economics, health and wellness, and geopolitics. Thanks to a sports tutor and personalized learning plans, students can balance training and competitions with a flexible academic program. The curriculum is enriched with elective courses and interdisciplinary activities for a well-rounded education.
Sports Disciplines Course
Sports disciplines are greatly strengthened (an extra hour in the two-year and three-year periods). The hours are divided between individual disciplines and team disciplines: the two types develop different personal and social skills. During these hours, the student delves into the theory and practice of different sports, experiences their values and reflects on their contribution to their integral formation. The reflective moment specific to Ignatian pedagogy is conducted by the teacher qualified for this type of activity.
Sports Culture Course
The course offers students an immersion in the many cultural, historical and social aspects of sport. Through the lessons, they will acquire a critical understanding of the evolution of sports, their social impact and the connection with cultural identity. The program prepares students for a holistic vision of the role of sport in contemporary society, in line with the new constitutional dictate.
Geopolitics Course
Giving space to the geopolitical dimension in the course of study means training thinking and aware citizens, capable of connecting the past and the present, developing a critical understanding of the contemporary world and a sense of responsibility towards the future.
Health and Wellness Course
The course promotes awareness and practice of a healthy lifestyle, addressing topics such as nutrition, mental health, disease prevention and addictions. Students will acquire fundamental tools for physical and mental well-being, developing conscious choices for a balanced and sustainable lifestyle. The course also explores the connection between health, happiness and fullness of life, offering a holistic and profound vision of well-being.
Symposium
• Thanks to school autonomy, a very interesting educational container called Symposia is created. Half of the curricular hours of religion are concentrated in a week of Symposia, in which students deal with educational and interdisciplinary themes that involve different disciplines and the great ethical and meaningful questions of our journey as men and women.
• The Symposia are thus a week in which we experience school in a different way, doing educational activities that help us discover ourselves and the world around us.

– Logic and Statistics:
1 hour for all university tests. The logic course provides the tools for qualified university access, integrating teaching with preparatory simulations for the entrance exams at major universities. Mathematical and formal logic helps develop students' critical, analytical, and applied thinking. A statistics module is also included within these hours;
– Science and Models
2 hours toward a choice in the medical-healthcare or scientific-technological fields. In this case, the chosen scientific major is further strengthened;
– Spanish
2 hours toward a choice in the humanities-linguistics field, also useful for those considering continuing their studies abroad.
