Carissime famiglie, cari studenti, educatori del Gonzaga Campus,

con grande gioia e profonda gratitudine, vi do il benvenuto all’inizio di un nuovo anno scolastico.

L’inizio di ogni anno è sempre un tempo prezioso, carico di attese, sogni, progetti. È un tempo in cui si mettono in cammino, ancora una volta, le energie di tutta la nostra comunità educativa. E quest’anno, più che mai, ci sentiamo interpellati da un tempo storico che ci chiede di essere testimoni e costruttori di speranza.

1. Tema dell’anno: “Per costruire un mondo di pace”

La Pastorale della Rete delle Scuole dei Gesuiti ci propone per questo anno scolastico un tema quanto mai attuale: “Per costruire un mondo di pace”.

Viviamo in un contesto storico segnato da troppe guerre, divisioni e ingiustizie che purtroppo non risparmiano neppure i bambini. Di fronte a tutto questo, come educatori, genitori e cittadini, non possiamo restare indifferenti. La pace non è un sogno lontano, né una parola da pronunciare una volta l’anno. È una scelta quotidiana, un compito educativo.

La scuola è il primo luogo in cui imparare la pace a partire dal nostro linguaggio: tra i banchi, nei corridoi, nei rapporti tra pari, nel rispetto degli insegnanti, nel modo in cui si affrontano i conflitti, nella bellezza del dialogo. Qui si impara ad ascoltare, a comprendere, a costruire ponti. La pace si educa, non nasce da sola.

Papa Francesco ci ha più volte esortati a coltivare la pace nel cuore dei giovani e a essere “artigiani di pace”, richiamando con forza anche il magistero dei papi che lo hanno preceduto. Già Papa Leone XIII, alla fine del XIX secolo, metteva in guardia contro le divisioni e le ingiustizie che minano la convivenza civile, e invitava a cercare soluzioni fondate sul rispetto della dignità umana, sul dialogo e sulla giustizia sociale. E Papa Leone XIV ha iniziato il suo pontificato invocando una “pace disarmante e disarmata” che è innanzitutto dono di Dio.

Ci impegniamo, come comunità del Gonzaga, a vivere quest’anno scolastico dal nostro “disarmarci”per abbracciare la logica di una pace che nasce dallo sguardo sull’altro, dalla cura del bene comune e dall’educazione del cuore.

2. La canonizzazione di due giovani ex alunni gesuiti

Un evento di grande importanza accompagnerà il nostro avvio di anno scolastico. Il 7 settembre 2025, a Roma, saranno canonizzati due giovani straordinari: Pier Giorgio Frassati e Carlo Acutis.

Entrambi sono stati ex alunni di scuole dei Gesuiti e oggi la Chiesa li riconosce come modelli di santità contemporanea.

Pier Giorgio Frassati, giovane torinese del primo Novecento, ex-alunno del Sociale di Torino, fu capace di vivere una fede profonda unita a una grande attenzione ai poveri, agli ultimi, ai malati. Lo chiamavano “l’uomo delle beatitudini”. Carlo Acutis, ragazzo del nostro tempo, ex alunno del Leone XIII di Milano, dove i suoi professori ancora lo ricordano per la sua gentilezza, per la sua vivace curiosità e attenzione ai più deboli, per la sua passione per l’Eucaristia. Egli nella sua semplicità sta diventando sempre più un punto di riferimento per tanti giovani che cercano un senso alla loro vita.

La richiesta di pass va fatta entro martedì 2 settembre.

Abbiamo infatti un certo numero di pass riservati per le scuole dei Gesuiti. Inoltre un piccolo

gruppetto si sta organizzando per andare a Roma (se volete potete anche per questo contattare il P. Claudiu o il prof. Emio Cinardo) ed io stesso sarò tra i concelebranti della messa. Sarà un’occasione per sentirci parte viva della Chiesa universale e per lasciarci ispirare dalla testimonianza di due giovani che hanno saputo incarnare con coraggio e autenticità il Vangelo nel loro tempo.

3. I 300 anni dalla canonizzazione di San Luigi Gonzaga

Il 2025 sarà per noi anche un anno speciale: ricorrono infatti i 300 anni dalla canonizzazione di un altro santo giovane, San Luigi Gonzaga, a cui è dedicata la nostra scuola.

Per la sua giovane età, San Luigi, vissuto nel XVI secolo, è stato proclamato patrono della gioventù: egli incarna quello spirito giovanile che esige radicalità e che non si ferma ai compromessi: radicalità nel seguire Cristo, rinunciando a ricchezze e onori; radicalità nel servizio degli ammalati durante un’epidemia di peste, anche a costo di perdere la vita a soli 23 anni.

La sua figura, insieme a quella di Piergiorgio e Carlo, continua a parlarci oggi, soprattutto ai giovani: ci ricorda che la santità è possibile, che si può vivere con autenticità, che la vera grandezza sta nel servire. Durante l’anno, il Gonzaga Campus proporrà momenti di riflessione, celebrazioni, iniziative culturali ed educative per far conoscere meglio la sua vita e lasciarci guidare dal suo esempio.

Dobbiamo lasciarci interpellare e forse “convertire” da queste figure di santità giovane per guardare con speranza al presente e al futuro.

4. La sfida dell’intelligenza artificiale

Così ci prepariamo ad un nuovo anno scolastico che ci presenta come sempre molte sfide. Tra di esse, oltre all’assurdità delle guerre che ci circondano e che necessitano la nostra attenzione di educatori, quella dell’intelligenza artificiale. In un tempo segnato da rapide trasformazioni digitali, è essenziale che la scuola si interroghi, si aggiorni e rinnovi le proprie pratiche didattiche per accompagnare in modo consapevole i giovani. Come comunità di educatori abbiamo deciso di metterla al centro dei giorni di ripartenza della nostra comunità scolastica. Dal 1° settembre, tutti i docenti del campus parteciperanno a una formazione intensiva sull’Intelligenza Artificiale e le sfide educative delle tecnologie.

Credo che sia bello che tutti sappiano di questo tempo di preparazione al nuovo anno scolastico da parte degli insegnanti. Esso è vissuto sempre come tempo prezioso di attesa in cui prepariamo tutto al meglio per accogliere i nostri studenti, il dono più prezioso che ci è affidato. Ci chiediamo sempre come accompagnarli ad abitare il mondo che li attende in un modo autentico e critico portando dentro di noi la complessità della realtà e la gioia di educare. Ancora Carlo Acutis che sarà patrono di Internet ci aiuti a riflettere e a prepararci sulle sfide educative delle tecnologie.

Le novità del Gonzaga Campus per l’anno 2025–2026

Accanto alle dimensioni spirituali e valoriali, il nuovo anno porta con sé importanti novità strutturali e organizzative, che rafforzano il nostro impegno a offrire un’esperienza educativa completa e innovativa. In questa circolare non posso fare altro che fornire uno sguardo di insieme: ci vorranno altre circolari del sottoscritto o dei coordinatori per entrare nel dettaglio di queste e altre novità che abbiamo preparato per il nuovo anno scolastico.

1. Il nuovo Nido del Gonzaga Campus

Come in parte già annunciato a partire da settembre, il Gonzaga avrà la gioia di accogliere i più piccoli: aprirà, infatti per la prima volta le sue porte ai bambini dai 6 mesi di età, con

l’inaugurazione del nuovo Nido d’infanzia.

È un passo importante, che segna l’estensione del nostro progetto educativo fin dalla primissima infanzia. Gli ambienti sono stati interamente riqualificati, progettati per garantire sicurezza, stimolazione sensoriale e cura affettiva. In questi tempi difficili vogliamo accogliere loro, i più piccoli, in un clima di fiducia e bellezza, che accompagni le famiglie nel delicato compito di crescere i propri figli. Ricordiamoci sempre che aiutando i più piccoli crescere, cresciamo anche noi come genitori e come educatori, proprio perché una scuola come la nostra non è fatta solo di servizi efficienti ma di un progetto di comunità che mette al centro i bambini e poi i ragazzi, perché insieme possiamo costruire un mondo migliore.

2. Il nuovo Liceo delle Scienze Umane

Anche l’offerta formativa del Liceo della scuola italiana si arricchisce con l’avvio del nuovo Liceo delle Scienze Umane, che ci è sembrato un indirizzo liceale capace di riprendere la tradizione umanistica Gesuita nel confronto con le sfide sociali di oggi. Siamo convinti che sia un liceo che guardi al futuro, dove la dimensione della cura resterà imprescindibile anche di fronte ai mutamenti tecnologici sempre più repentini, e che possa parlare ai giovani che desiderano comprendere l’essere umano nella sua complessità e prepararsi a professioni legate al mondo educativo, sociale e psicologico.

3. La riapertura della Casina Whitaker

Dopo un lungo e accurato intervento di restauro, la Casina Whitaker è pronta a riaprire. Gli spazi interni e antistanti, completamente rinnovati, torneranno ad ospitare gli uffici di direzione, amministrazione e segreteria del Campus. Essa sarà anche uno spazio prezioso anche per le attività pomeridiane dei ragazzi in età di liceo. Un luogo storico che torna a vivere, al servizio della comunità.

4. La dimensione sportiva all’interno del campus

La nostra Polisportiva continua a crescere e arricchisce l’offerta formativa del Campus Gonzaga.

Crediamo molto in questa sinergia tra sport e scuola e stiamo cercando di rendere sempre più sinergici questi aspetti in vista della formazione integrale dei bambini e dei ragazzi. A una proposta già ampia (calcio, basket, minibasket, tennis, pallavolo, ju jitsu, kickboxing, multisport, pattinaggio artistico, ginnastica artistica), si aggiunge quest’anno anche la danza classica e contemporanea. È una disciplina che unisce corpo, mente ed espressione artistica, e che arricchisce ulteriormente la possibilità per i nostri studenti di scoprire e coltivare le proprie passioni.

Nello stesso tempo prosegue anche il lavoro di rinnovamento delle infrastrutture sportive:

troverete rifatto il manto di due nuovi campi di calcetto, per offrire sempre maggiori spazi sicuri e funzionali.

5. Accademia del Palermo Calcio

Un progetto a cui teniamo moltissimo, al quale stiamo lavorando da tempo e che si è concretizzato in questa estate è la costituzione dell’Accademia Palermo Calcio al Gonzaga Campus. Si tratta di un progetto che, in continuità con l’importanza data allo sport come strumento prezioso per l’educazione delle nuove generazioni e con l’apertura del Liceo Scientifico sportivo di qualche anno fa, prevede un luogo residenziale per gli atleti del Palermo calcio che possono trovare al Gonzaga un luogo di crescita significativo proprio nella sinergia tra impegni sportivi, scuola e formazione

umana. Per questo un piano della Comunità dei Padri è stato adibito a foresteria per ospitare i giovani atleti del Palermo Calcio, offrendo loro un ambiente sereno, curato e stimolante.

6. Servizio Civile: 100 giovani a servizio dei giovani

Anche quest’anno accoglieremo, nelle prossime settimane, i giovani del servizio civile della rete “Il Gonzaga con i giovani in Sicilia”. Come capofila della rete crediamo molto nella potenzialità dei giovani per la crescita di questa terra e crediamo che questo progetto metta in circolo delle belle energie che sono di aiuto a tante realtà ed anche ai giovani che lo fanno. Quest’anno si tratta 100 giovani in Servizio Civile, coinvolti in attività sociali e educative a Palermo, Catania e Messina. 35 di loro saranno inseriti all’interno della Scuola Italiana, della International School e della Polisportiva, portando competenze, creatività e desiderio di fare la differenza. Li accogliamo con gioia ed apertura.

Informazioni in vista della ripresa dell’anno scolastico

A partire da lunedì 1° settembre, attraverso il registro elettronico, riceverete le comunicazioni specifiche di ciascun plesso con tutte le indicazioni logistiche e didattiche per i primi giorni di scuola.

Lasciatemi qui dare solo qualche informazione molto generale.

Innanzitutto vi ricordo che gli uffici di segreteria e amministrazione sono già aperti al pubblico, dal lunedì al venerdì, nei seguenti orari: 8:00 – 9:30 e 12:00 – 13:30 e sono pronti anche quest’anno a supportarvi in una serena ripresa delle attività scolastiche.

Passando alla scuola vi informo che da quest’anno, tutte le attività didattiche sia della scuola italiana che dell’international school inizieranno 10 minuti prima rispetto allo scorso anno. Una scelta semplice ma importante, per migliorare la gestione dei tempi e favorire una maggiore armonia nei ritmi di apprendimento e nella logistica del Campus.

• L’International School Palermo comincerà lunedì 08 settembre, a tempo pieno, con il servizio mensa incluso.

• La scuola italiana comincerà come di seguito specificato:

o Infanzia: lunedì 08 settembre. Inizio tempo pieno da lunedì 15 settembre.

o Primaria: lunedì 15 settembre per le classi prime; mercoledì 17 per le restanti classi (dalle

seconde alle quinte). Tempo pieno da lunedì 22 settembre.

o Medie: lunedì 15 settembre 2025. Inizio del tempo pieno lunedì 22 settembre.

o Licei: lunedì 15 settembre 2025.

Letter for the Beginning of the Academic and Sports Year 2025-2026

Dear families, students, and educators of the Gonzaga Campus,

With great joy and deep gratitude, I warmly welcome you to the start of a new school year. The beginning of every year is always a precious time, filled with expectations, dreams, and new projects. It is the moment when the energies of our entire educational community set out once again on a journey. This year, more than ever, we feel called by history to be witnesses and builders of hope.

1. Theme of the year “To Build a World of Peace”

The Pastoral Office of the Jesuit Schools Network proposes for this academic year a theme of great relevance: “To Build a World of Peace.” We live in a historical context scarred by too many wars, divisions, and injustices that, tragically, do not even spare children. Faced with this reality, as educators, parents, and citizens, we cannot remain indifferent. Peace is not a distant dream, nor a word to be spoken once a year. It is a daily choice, an educational commitment.

School is the first place where we learn peace, beginning with our language: at our desks, in the hallways, in peer relationships, in respect for teachers, in how we face conflicts, in the beauty of dialogue. Here we learn to listen, to understand, and to build bridges. Peace is taught—it does not come on its own.

Pope Francis has often urged us to cultivate peace in the hearts of young people and to be “artisans of peace,” recalling as well the teachings of his predecessors. Already at the end of the 19th century,

Pope Leo XIII warned against the divisions and injustices that undermine civil life, inviting all to seek solutions rooted in respect for human dignity, dialogue, and social justice. And Pope Leone XIV began his pontificate by invoking a “disarming and disarmed peace,” which is first and foremost a gift from God.

As the Gonzaga community, we commit ourselves to living this school year by “disarming” our hearts and embracing the logic of a peace born from seeing the other, caring for the common good, and educating the heart.

2. The Canonization of Two Young Former Jesuit Students

A truly significant event will accompany the beginning of this year. On 7th September 2025, in Rome, two extraordinary young men will be canonized: Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis. Both were former students of Jesuit schools, and today the Church recognizes them as models of contemporary

holiness. Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young man from Turin in the early 20th century and former student of the “Sociale” in Turin, lived a deep faith united with a strong commitment to the poor, the sick, and the marginalized. He was known as “the man of the beatitudes.” Carlo Acutis, a boy of our time and former student of Leone XIII in Milan, where his teachers still recall his kindness, lively curiosity, attentiveness to the weak, and his profound devotion to the Eucharist, is becoming more and more a point of reference for young people in search of meaning in their lives.

Those who wish to take part in the Holy Mass at St. Peter’s Square may request a pass by writing to cinardo.emiosalvatore@gonzagapalermo.it or miklos.claudiujani@gonzagapalermo.it no later than Tuesday, 2nd September. A number of passes are reserved for Jesuit schools. A small group is also organizing a trip to Rome (for this as well, you may contact Fr. Claudiu or Prof. Emio Cinardo), and I myself will be among the concelebrants at the Mass. It will be an occasion to feel part of the

universal Church and to be inspired by the witness of two young people who courageously and authentically embodied the Gospel in their time.

3. The 300th Anniversary of the Canonization of St. Luigi Gonzaga

The year 2025 will also be special for us: it marks the 300th anniversary of the canonization of

another young saint, St. Luigi Gonzaga, to whom our school is dedicated.

For his youth, Luigi, who lived in the 16th century, was proclaimed patron of young people. He embodies a youthful spirit of radicality, refusing compromises: radical in following Christ,

renouncing wealth and honors; radical in serving the sick during a plague outbreak, even to the point of giving his life at only 23 years old.

His witness, together with that of Pier Giorgio and Carlo, speaks to us today, especially to young people, reminding us that holiness is possible, that life can be lived with authenticity, and that true greatness lies in service. Throughout the year, the Gonzaga Campus will offer moments of reflection, celebrations, cultural events, and educational initiatives to make his life better known and to let ourselves be guided by his example. We must allow ourselves to be challenged and perhaps “converted” by these young saints, so as to look with renewed hope to the present and the future.

4. The Challenge of Artificial intelligence

As we prepare for a new school year, we once again face many challenges. Among them, beyond the absurdity of ongoing wars that demand our attention as educators, is the challenge of artificial intelligence. In this time of rapid digital transformation, it is essential that schools question, update, and renew their educational practices to accompany young people with awareness. As a community of educators, we have chosen to place this issue at the center of our school’s restart days. Beginning 1st September, all teachers of the Campus will take part in intensive training on Artificial Intelligence and the educational challenges of technology.

I find it beautiful that everyone knows about this time of preparation by our teachers. It is always a precious moment of waiting, during which we prepare everything as best as possible to welcome our students, the most valuable gift entrusted to us. We continually ask ourselves how to guide them in inhabiting the world that awaits them in an authentic and critical way, carrying within us both the complexity of reality and the joy of educating. Once again, Carlo Acutis, soon to be patron of the Internet, will help us reflect and prepare for the educational challenges of technology.

New Features of Gonzaga Campus for the Year 2025–2026

Alongside the spiritual and value-based dimensions, the new year brings important structural and organizational developments that strengthen our commitment to offering a complete and innovative educational experience. In this letter, I can only provide an overview; further communications from myself or the coordinators will provide details about these and other new initiatives prepared for this school year.

1. The new nursery of Gonzaga Campus

As already announced, beginning in September, Gonzaga will joyfully welcome its youngest children: for the first time, the Campus will open its doors to babies from 6 months old, with the inauguration of the new nursery. This is an important step, extending our educational mission from the earliest years of life. The facilities have been fully renovated, designed to guarantee safety, sensory stimulation, and loving care.

In these difficult times, we want to welcome the youngest in an atmosphere of trust and beauty, supporting families in the delicate mission of raising their children. Let us always remember that in helping little ones grow, we too grow, as parents and as educators, because a school like ours is not merely efficient services, but a community project centered on children and young people, building together a better world.

2. The New Liceo delle Scienze Umane (High School of Human Sciences)

Our Italian school expands its educational offerings with the launch of the new Liceo delle Scienze Umane (High School of Human Sciences), which reflects the Jesuit humanistic tradition in dialogue with today’s social challenges. We are convinced that it is a forward-looking program, one where the dimension of care will remain essential even amid rapid technological change, and that it will appeal to young people who wish to understand the human person in all their complexity and prepare for professions in the educational, social, and psychological fields.

3. The Reopening of the Casina Whitaker

After a long and meticulous restoration, the Casina Whitaker is ready to reopen. Its fully renovated spaces will once again house the Campus offices of management, administration, and secretariat.

It will also become a valuable venue for afternoon activities for high school students. A historic site is coming back to life, serving the community.

4. The Sporting Dimension of the Campus

Our Sports Association (Polisportiva) continues to grow, enriching the educational offerings of the Gonzaga Campus. We believe deeply in this synergy between school and sport, and we are committed to strengthening it further in pursuit of the integral formation of children and young people. To an already wide range of activities (soccer, basketball, mini-basketball, tennis, volleyball, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, multisport, figure skating, gymnastics), we now add classical and contemporary dance, a discipline that unites body, mind, and artistic expression, offering students yet another opportunity to discover and cultivate their passions.

Meanwhile, we continue renewing our sports facilities: two soccer fields have been resurfaced, providing safer and more functional spaces for our students.

5. Palermo Football Academy

A project very dear to us, long in preparation and realized this summer, is the establishment of the Palermo Football Academy at Gonzaga Campus. In continuity with our emphasis on sport as a valuable educational tool, and following the creation of the Sports-Oriented Scientific High School a few years ago, this initiative provides a residential space for Palermo football athletes. At Gonzaga they will find a meaningful environment where sports, academics, and human formation meet in harmony. For this reason, one floor of the Fathers’ Community has been converted into a residence for the young Palermo athletes, offering them a serene, caring, and stimulating environment.

6. Civil Service: 100 Young People Serving Youth

Once again this year, we will welcome the young men and women involved in the Civil Service program of the network “Gonzaga with Youth in Sicily.” As lead organization, we firmly believe in the potential of young people to contribute to the growth of this land. This project generates positive energy, serving many communities while also supporting the volunteers themselves. This year, 100 young people will be engaged in social and educational activities in Palermo, Catania, and Messina. Of these, 35 will join the Italian School, the International School, and the Sports Association, bringing with them skills, creativity, and a strong desire to make a difference. We welcome them with joy and openness.

Information on the Beginning of the School Year

Starting Monday, 1st September, you will receive specific communications for each school section via the online register, with all logistical and educational instructions for the first days of school.

Allow me to share some general information here.

The offices of administration and secretariat are already open to the public, Monday through

Friday, from 8:00–9:30 a.m. and 12:00–1:30 p.m., and are ready, as always, to support you for a smooth start to the school year.

As for classes, please note that beginning this year all lessons, both in the Italian school and the International School, will start 10 minutes earlier than last year. It is a small but significant choice, helping us improve time management and harmonize the rhythms of learning and campus logistics.

• The International School Palermo will begin on Monday, 8th September, with full-time classes

and cafeteria service included.

• The Italian School will begin as follows:

o Infanzia: Monday, 8th September. Full-time schedule from Monday, 15th September.

o Primaria: Monday, 15th September for first grades; Wednesday, 17th September for all other

classes (2nd to 5th). Full-time schedule from Monday, 22nd September.

o Medie: Monday, 15th September 2025. Full-time schedule from Monday, 22nd September.

o Licei: Monday, 15th September 2025.
